    Entrance Exams – Education and Career in Tamil Nadu

    In today’s world, being competitive is the need of the hour. And the competition for engineering institutes is growing faster than ever each year. Obtaining more than required cut-off for each exam and securing a good rank has become the dream of every engineering aspirant. However, it doesn’t work out for the most. The toughest and most prestigious of them all, JEE, entrance exam only allows for a few thousand to actually get admissions in premiere institutes.

    That doesn’t mean all hope is lost for those who couldn’t get into IIT’s and NIT’s. Tamil Nadu is one of the most technologically advanced states in India, and wholeheartedly accepts candidates willing to pursue engineering on a grand stage. Here provided some information regarding the entrance exams schedule and pattern in Tamil Nadu. It will helps you grant admissions to the best colleges in Tamil Nadu.

    List of best Engineering Entrance Exams in Tamil Nadu

    • The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions test (TNEA)
    • The SRM Institute of Science and Technology(SRMJEEE)
    • The Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam(VITEEE)

    TNEA

    The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions test (TNEA) is an annually held competition that allows aspirants to take admission in any of 535 colleges across Tamil Nadu. With over 2.5 lakh seats in some of the most renowned colleges like Anna University, Government College of Engineering in Salem, Nehru Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College among numerous others.

    Eligibility – Only those candidates are eligible to register who have completed their education from VIII to XII in Tamil Nadu.

    Those candidates are also eligible who are native to Tamil Nadu and have completed at least one year from classes VIII to XII from Tamil Nadu.

    Those candidates are eligible to register who have secured at least 50% marks in PCM class XII. There is a relaxation of 5% for OBC candidates, and that of 10% for MBC/DNC/SC/ST/SCA candidates.

    Exam Pattern – There is no written exam for the candidates. The admissions are made based of the candidate’s performance in Class XII.

    Counselling and Admissions – The marks scored by candidates in PCM class XII are normalized. The TNEA is prepared according to the following factors(In order of priority):

    • Percentage of marks in Mathematics
    • Percentage of marks in Physics
    • Percentage of marks in Chemistry
    • Percentage of marks in the 4th optional subject
    • Date of birth(Elder candidates are given preference.

    SRMJEEE

    The SRM Institute of Science and Technology conducts its own entrance test for various branches across South India. It consists of 7,000 seats in various streams of B.Tech. It is an online only exam and sees an annual turn up of approximately 2 lakh aspirants.

    Eligibility – Candidates must be born between July 1, 1997 and July 1,2002.

    Candidates should be Indian nationals and should have completed class XII PCM with a minimum 50% aggregate from any recognized board.

    Exam pattern – The paper is online only and consists of three sections(Physics, Chemistry and Maths). The candidate has 2.5 hrs. to solve the entire paper. Each section comprises of 35 multiple choice questions. For every correct answer the candidate is awarded 3 marks. There is no negative marking.

    Counselling and Admissions – The counselling for SRMJEEE starts in the second week of May. Candidates need to report for offline counselling at their nearest centers. Admissions are done on the basis of cutoffs provided for various streams. The candidates need to report for counselling with their result card along with all the necessary documents and a demand draft for counselling fee.

    VITEEE

    The Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam(VITEEE) is conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology to offer admissions to aspirants seeking admission in B.Tech. programs in one of the most famous institutes in all of India. It has two campuses, both of which have an excellent track record regarding placements. It is an online only exam and sees candidates turn up from all across India.

    Eligibility – Candidates born on or after July 1, 1996 can apply for VITEEE 2018.

    Candidates need to secure a minimum of 60% aggregate in PCM class XII or equivalent from a recognized board (NIOS also applicable).

    For SC/ST/North Eastern States candidates, the minimum aggregate marks are 50%.

    Exam Pattern – The examination is online only. Candidates need to book their slots in advance from the official VITEEE website. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The question paper is divided into four sections –

    • Physics – 40 questions
    • Chemistry – 40 questions
    • Maths – 40 questions
    • English – 5 questions

    Each question carries 1 mark. There is no negative marking.

     

    Entrance exam for MBA/MCA/ME/M.Tech in tamilnadu

    The Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET)

    The Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test(TANCET) is for candidates seeking admissions in Post Graduate studies such as MBA/MCA/ME/M.Tech. in different colleges across Tamil Nadu. It is conducted by Anna University, although the scores are accepted by most Government and Self-Financed colleges based in Tamil Nadu.

    Eligibility – Only those candidates can give TANCET who hold a graduate degree in B.Tech./B.E./B.Pharm./B.Arch. with a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examination(45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved categories).

    Important Dates for TANCET Exam 2018-2019

    The date for 2018 is yet to be out.  So here dates given for TANCET 2017 schedule,  it will give idea roughly for 

    Exam Pattern – The question paper for TANCET consists of MCQs from Data Sufficiency, Quantitative aptitude , English and Business Situations. It is a pen and paper based examination with a duration of two hours.

    Counselling and Admissions – Counselling for different colleges take place in the months of July and August once the rank list of TANCET is released. There are different dates for different colleges. Candidates need to report to the desired colleges along with their rank card and all the necessary documents for admissions.
